Public Sharps & BioHazards

This qualification is designed for individuals who may encounter or handle sharps (including needles, blades, and other contaminated objects) as part of their role. It equips learners with the knowledge to safely identify, handle, and dispose of sharps while minimising the risk of needlestick injuries and exposure to bloodborne pathogens. This qualification helps to support a role in the workplace.

This qualification has been developed in accordance with best practice in handling needles and other sharps including:

  1. Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  2. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002
  3. Health and Safety (Sharp Instruments in Healthcare) Regulations 2013
  4. Environmental Protection Act 1990
  5. Waste Duty of Care Code of Practice (Environment Agency)
  6. Public Health England (PHE) Guidance for sharps safety in beauty and tattoo industries
